|The 2015 - 2016 Johnson Community Schools Mock Trial Team.|
This is Attorney Mommsen’s second year coaching a middle school mock trial team and the second year her team has advanced to State. Attorney Mommsen encourages all students, even those not interested in pursuing a career in the legal field, to participate in mock trial due to the number of skills it teaches students. Mock trial is an invaluable experience where students are taught how to problem solve using applicable law, the art of persuasive public speaking, and how to think on their feet.
More information on the competition can be found at: http://www.iowabar.org/?MSMockTrial
Mock trial is designed to introduce students to our legal system by providing a challenging, academic competition. The program offers students an opportunity for personal growth and achievement, emphasizing the importance of research, presentation, and teamwork. In addition to teaching students about contemporary public issues and the legal system, the program encourages teachers and students to develop learning partnerships with professionals from the community.
