Personal injury accidents can happen anywhere. No matter where you live, it’s possible to be hurt at home, at work, on the road, or out in the community. In order to spread awareness and help reduce the number of injuries caused by accidents, the National Safety Council kicks off National Safety Month in June. This campaign encourages everyone to make just one change to improve safety in the month of June. When everyone exercises reasonable care to help eliminate accident risks, the greater the chance that “No 1 Gets Hurt.”
Safety Topics for June 2018
Thousands of organizations across the country join the National Safety Council to promote safety and reduce the leading causes of injury and death at home, at work, on the road, and in the community. Each week has a different safety focus, and here are the topics for 2018:
- First week of June: Emergency preparedness. You can use this week to create an emergency plan, which may include CPR training and actions for catastrophic weather.
- Second week of June: Wellness. This week urges organizations to invest in health initiatives such as “worker sleep health” and to address the problem of opioid addiction. Both drowsiness and opioid use can affect a person’s safety at work and on the roads.
- Third week of June: Falls. During this week, businesses can assess how to make their facilities safer by looking for hidden dangers that may result in falls and identify steps to reduce the risks.
- Fourth week of June: Driving. During the last week of this campaign, motorists can identify unsafe driving behavior such as distracted driving and drowsy driving and work to correct it.
The National Safety Council is encouraging everyone to think of at least one change they can make to improve safety in June and throughout the year. We encourage you to do what you can to stay safe and keep others safe, so fewer people suffer preventable injuries during the second half of 2018 and beyond.
