JUUL’s Youth Marketing Lawsuit Settlement
JUUL Labs has agreed to pay $14.5 million in a recent settlement with Arizona. The state accused the e-cigarette company of marketing its products to minors and causing an epidemic of vaping. JUUL Labs claimed that its products were safer than other types of tobacco products. Arizona will use the settlement to cover the cost of education and cessation programs that prevent vaping among youth. The settlement will also be used to implement strict retail monitoring so that it is illegal to sell vaping products to underage consumers. In addition, JUUL Labs will not be permitted to advertise its products near school, on social media, or other outlets.
JUUL Labs previously settled another lawsuit with the state of North Carolina in June 2021. The settlement with North Carolina included a promise by JUUL Labs to no longer market its products to youth and also included a payment of $40 million. There are also other lawsuits with numerous other state and local governments that have not yet been settled.
