With the Milwaukee Brewers heading to the World Series and Halloween just around the corner, there is plenty to celebrate this fall! Whether you're cheering on the Brewers, attending a Halloween party or gathering with friends and family, it's important to celebrate responsibly.Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers is congratulated by his teammates after hitting the game-winning two-run single against the San Diego Padres...

While enjoying a few drinks may be part of the festivities, getting behind the wheel while intoxicated puts you and others at serious risk. Here are three reasons why you should never drink and drive.

Slower Reaction Times and Reduced Concentration

Alcohol slows reaction times and makes it more difficult to concentrate on the road. Drivers must be prepared to react quickly to unexpected situations, such as animals crossing the road, pedestrians entering crosswalks or vehicles braking suddenly.

When alcohol impairs your ability to focus, even a split-second delay can lead to a serious accident. Intoxicated drivers may also become more easily distracted, increasing the risk of a collision.

Poor Judgment and Decision-Making

Alcohol affects the part of the brain responsible for judgment and rational thinking. As a result, intoxicated individuals may make dangerous decisions without fully considering the consequences.

This can lead to risky driving behaviors such as speeding, ignoring traffic signals or overestimating their ability to drive safely. Even if someone feels capable of driving, their judgment and decision-making skills may already be impaired.

Impaired Coordination

Safe driving requires coordination between your hands, feet and eyes. Alcohol interferes with these abilities, making even basic driving tasks more difficult.

Intoxicated drivers may struggle to stay within their lanes, maintain a consistent speed, steer properly or apply the correct amount of pressure to the pedals. These impairments create dangerous conditions for everyone sharing the road.

Make a Plan Before You Celebrate

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 11,904 people lost their lives in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in 2024. That's approximately 32 lives lost every day to preventable tragedies.

As you celebrate the Brewers' World Series appearance and the upcoming Halloween festivities, remember that getting home safely should always be a priority. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service or arrange for public transportation before heading out.
