On Thursday, February 16th, a car accident in Lake Hallie, Chippewa County resulted in the injury of two adults and two children, all of whom were transported to the hospital,

The collision occurred between two cars, a four-door Chevrolet Equinox and a Pontiac van, and took place at the intersection of Highway 124 and 40th Avenue at 10:42 AM. The Equinox was moving northbound, driven by Chippewa Falls resident Laura Simonson, 73, when it collided with a van heading southbound and making a left-hand turn.

The driver of the van, Chippewa falls resident Heather Schwetz, 33 has been taken to the hospital along with her two daughters, aged four and six. All injuries were non life-threatening, everyone involved in the crash wearing their safety belts and both vehicles deploying their air bags.

According to a witness, the collision occurred when Simonson neglected to stop for a red stop light and collided with Schwetz’s van as Schwetz was attempting to turn left on a green turn-signal light. The traffic signal lights were found by police officers to be functioning properly.

So far in 2012, the intersection of Highway 124 and 40th Avenue has now seen 4 collisions, the most recent being a February 10th crash that caused the death of a driver whose vehicle collided with a semi-truck.
