Police say that 36-year-old Latara T. Freeman of Madison, WI was driving under the influence when she caused an auto accident.  The accident occurred at the intersection of Prairie Road and Raymond Road.  Freeman was traveling at a high rate of speed when she approached the intersection.  She then ran the stop sign, causing a vehicle to slam into her van.

The accident in Madison caused extensive damage to both vehicles.  At the time of the accident there were seven passengers in Freeman's van.  Three of the passengers were children under the age of seven.  None of the passengers were wearing seat belts.

Six of the passengers were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non life threatening injuries.  All of the children have been released to a relative.  The occupants of the other vehicle escaped without injury.

It was determined that Freeman was under the influence at the time of the accident.  She is currently being housed in the Dane County Jail.  She is facing a felony charge of OWI causing injury, among other charges.
