Paws Off the Pavement! Summer Pet Safety Tips.

It’s the perfect time for outdoor adventures with your furry companions! Hupy and Abraham want to ensure you, and your pets, can safely enjoy the warm weather.

Summer heat can be dangerous for pets. Here are some important ways to protect your furry companions during the hot months:

  • Never leave your pet in a parked car. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, putting your pet at serious risk of heatstroke or worse.
  • Provide plenty of fresh water. Just like humans, pets can become dehydrated quickly. Watch for signs such as a dry nose and excessive panting, which may indicate your pet needs hydration.
  • Ensure your pet has proper ID. If your pet gets loose, having a microchip and a collar with your contact information can help reunite you quickly.
  • Stay up to date on flea and tick prevention. Warm weather brings pests. Use vet-approved treatments and try to avoid heavily wooded areas to reduce the risk of infestation.
  • Protect your pet’s paws. Asphalt and pavement can get dangerously hot in the sun. Walk your pet on grass when possible or use paw wax for extra protection.
  • Watch signs of heatstroke. Symptoms include heavy panting, glazed eyes, vomiting, difficulty breathing and even seizures. If your pet shows any of these signs, move them to a shaded area, pour cool (not cold) water over them and call your veterinarian immediately.

You can help prevent your pet from causing an injury this summer by making sure they are comfortable and healthy. For more information about dog bites, get your free dog bite brochure on our website
