Traffic Accident on a Rockford Street

In 2018, the City of Rockford’s Police Department had four goals. One of those goals was to improve traffic safety.

According to the Rockford Police Department’s 2018 annual report, there were:

  • 490 DUI arrests in Rockford in 2018. This was the most in the State of Illinois. Of these arrests, 119 DUI arrests were made by Investigator Andrew Hartman who earned the Top Cop Award form the Alliance Against Impaired Motorists (AAIM.)
  • 749 traffic citations. Rockford participated in Illinois traffic safety enforcement campaigns and issued 749 citations during 2018.
  • 20 accidents that the traffic team was called on for response. There were 15 fatalities and five serious injuries that resulted from these accidents.
  • Two additional traffic crash reconstructionists certified through the State of Illinois to help with accident investigations. Additionally, the Police Department invested in new technology to help with severe and fatal accidents.

Contact the Rockford Police Department After an Accident

The immediate aftermath of a motor vehicle crash is often overwhelming. You may not know what to do after an accident.

One of the first things you can do is to contact the Rockford Police by calling 911 in an emergency. For example, you might call 911 if someone is hurt or if you are in a location where a second accident is likely. In a non-emergency situation, you can request that a Rockford officer come to the accident scene by calling 815-966-2900.

The police can make sure that everyone who needs emergency medical help gets it, direct traffic and prevent subsequent crashes at the accident scene, and investigate the cause of your crash. After the collision, you can request a copy of your police report, which may be useful in your car accident case.
