midwest moto rides

Summer is here and it’s time to hit the pavement! There are millions of miles of scenic motorcycle roads in America, but not all are created equal. What makes a great ride? Scenery? Winding roads? Tourist destinations? We at Hupy and Abraham have gathered some top rides so get out and explore the Midwest on two wheels this summer!

Our Favorite Summer Rides

Wisconsin

The best motorcycle route in Wisconsin is the Endless Valley Run. This scenic stretch runs 18 miles in southwest Wisconsin. It includes rivers and streams, valleys and ridges. The tourist stops will make you think you’ve gone back in time!  Spring Green has world-class amenities - resorts, hotels and restaurants.

This run winds from Barneveld to Spring Green. Starting in Barneveld, WI, take County Road T (north) and wind your way down the valley, (cross County Road H) still on T, wind your way up and over the ridge and back down-valley to State Highway 23.

Illinois

A shorter but more scenic ride in Illinois is on Route 71 to Starved Rock State Park. This trail includes wooded areas, hills and deep ravines. It will take you straight into the park where you could stop and hike the trails or have a picnic.

Start at Utica, IL and head south on Route 178. At the intersection of Route 71, turn left (east) and you'll be at the entrance of the park in under a mile.  Get back on 71 heading east and ride along the Illinois river to the town of South Ottawa. The whole ride is only 13 miles.

If you’re looking for a longer ride, consider the Wilmington-Kankakee River Loop. This route stretches 42 miles on tree-lined, smooth-paved roads and runs past Kankakee State Park.

Start in downtown Wilmington, IL on Water - go south – it will turn into Route 102. Take 102 into Kankakee which meets Routes 45/52. Continue south to Court St (Route 17). Turn right across the Kankakee River bridge. Turn right at the stop light onto N. Wall St. This is also Route 113. Take 113 back north up to Wilmington (Route 53). Turn right and cross the Kankakee River again. You've just completed the loop.

Iowa

The Old Lincoln Highway is the perfect plan for a midday ride. It stretches 30 miles through southwest Iowa. It’s a straight shot on this historic highway. This road runs through some of the most serene & beautiful southwest Iowa farmland.

The starting point is in Council Bluffs, IA (just across the river/border from Omaha, NE). Start on north Broadway.  You'll find signs for Highway 183.  Take that north towards Crescent, IA. Take 183 through Crescent and on to Missouri Valley and continue for another 10 miles to Magnolia.
