Dear Hupy and Abraham,
Thank you for your recent generous sponsorship of the 31st Annual presentation of The Milwaukee Times Black Excellence Awards. Your willingness to help provide scholarship funds for deserving Milwaukee area high school seniors and to honor this year’s class of community heroes is an important investment in the future of Milwaukee.
Thanks to Hupy and Abraham, and our other sponsors, we provided scholarship assistance and a brand new laptop computer to nine students this year. We also honored 45 community and business leaders for the contributions toward improving opportunities for all residents to prosper and enjoy lives of purpose and opportunity.
The sponsorship so generously provided by Hupy and Abraham and other institutions is essential to the long-standing success of our Black Excellence Award sponsorship partners and we are very grateful for your support.
The Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper established the Louvenia Johnson Scholarship Fund on February 27, 1988 at the third annual Black Excellence Award Program. It is named after the late Mrs. Louvenia Johnson, one of the three founders of the Christian Times Newspaper, which later evolved into what is now the Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper. Since its inception the Fund has distributed more than $575,000 in scholarship assistance.
Mrs. Johnson possessed an unshakable belief in Milwaukee and the literary excellence of its youth. Thanks in part to Hupy and Abraham, and our other sponsors, her legacy of helping young adults realize their dream has continued to thrive for more than three decades.
Again, thank you for all you do for our hometown. Through your generosity you have made an important contribution toward building the next generation of community and business leaders.
