Members celebrating the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee at anniversary party

Thursday, September 20, 2018, the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee held its 102nd anniversary celebration at the Italian Community Center. The event was emceed by Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee’s Executive Director Colleen Foley who thanked everyone for helping them provide free legal support to thousands each year.  Hupy and Abraham, S.C. was verbally recognized as an event “Table Sponsor.”  Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele gave a few remarks at the beginning of the luncheon.

In addition to celebrating their own achievements, Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee also took the time to award three “Equal Justice Medals” to outstanding local citizens. Attorney Barbara Graham was recognized for providing legal aid for immigrants, Debbie Lassiter was recognized for providing services for victims of human trafficking and Attorney Thomas Reed was recognized for his work on helping mental health programs run to their highest capability.

The principal speaker was Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Daniel Bice, who spoke of the relevance and importance news has to society, in particular when related to politics. Bice emphasized that every attendee should support their local news publication in any way they can, to ensure that the industry continues to thrive.

As one of the nation’s oldest public interest law firms, the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee has provided free legal services to Milwaukee’s most vulnerable residents since 1916. They strive “to do all things necessary for the prevention of injustice.” Hupy and Abraham is a longtime supporter of the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee and its mission.
