back to school road safety

It is back-to-school season, which means school buses are back on the road along with many students. Hupy and Abraham wants to ensure the kids and drivers stay safe with these safety reminders.

Share the road with pedestrians. When it comes to stop signs and stoplights, make sure you are stopping before the white line and aren’t stopped in the middle of the crosswalk. Keep an eye out for crossing guards and abide by their signs and hand motions.

Driving near a school bus requires extra caution. When the bus turns on its red warning lights, stop at least 20 feet away from the bus. All cars must stop in the opposite lane unless the lanes are divided with a center median. Cars may not continue until the lights are off and the bus is moving again.

When driving in school zones, slow down and express extra caution. Avoid distractions including your phone and the radio. Make full stops at all stop signs and take an extra second to ensure there are no pedestrians nearby.

Hupy and Abraham promotes several programs to bring awareness to distracted driving, such as texting and driving. Join others who are committed to safe driving and take the pledge today.
