Every year, the American Cancer Society (ACS) puts on their annual Champions of Hope Gala to raise money for cancer research. This year, almost all in-person events have been canceled, including this imperative fundraiser. Without people purchasing tickets, getting dressed up and bidding for a charitable cause, Attorney Michael Hupy decided to get creative by matching donations up to $5,000.
With the current pandemic, the future of cancer research is at risk. ACS is presently looking at a reduction of funding by up to 50% if these ongoing trends continue. COVID-19 has changed many aspects of our lives. Unfortunately, it hasn’t changed the reality that cancer continues to affect each of us in far too many ways.
For years, Attorney Hupy has attended the Champions of Hope Gala. After it was announced that there wouldn’t be a gala this year and that fundraising numbers are down, Attorney Hupy stepped in hoping that this would motivate people to donate.
“All of these organizations are really hurting, people are hurting and I would like to do everything I can to help out and motivate others to donate,” says Attorney Michael Hupy.
