Hupy and Abraham Supports Legal Aid Society

The Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee hosted a luncheon at the Italian Community Center in honor of their 106th anniversary.  Hupy and Abraham was proud to be a sponsor of this event and support the work that Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee does for the community.

Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society Colleen Foley explained one up-and-coming project called Eviction Free MKE that was rolled out in September 2021. The project has the goal of increasing tenant eviction representation and make Milwaukee a national model for eviction innovation. The free legal help to stop evictions has served over 3,000 households during its first year.

Speakers at this event also included Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley; City of Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson; Deputy Chief Judge, the Honorable Carl Ashley; Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul and keynote speaker Janine Geske, the director of the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice and distinguished professor of law at Marquette University Law School.

Additionally, awards were given for the Thomas G. Cannon Equal Justice Medal, which honors individuals who make exemplary contributions to equal justice. This award was won by Steven Szymanski and Jordyn Janikowski for their work in conducting seminars for entrepreneurs in the 53204 and 53206 neighborhoods providing business advice to residents and often representation thereafter.

Hupy and Abraham, S.C. is proud to support the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee. We are honored to be invited to this luncheon that features the amazing work that law firms continue to do in the Milwaukee area. We look forward to continuing to support this important organization in the years to come.
