Hupy & Abraham was proud to help the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee honor Mr. Gerard Toliver on September 11, 2009 at the YMCA Black Achievers 28th Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala.  The Gala was held in downtown Milwaukee at the Pfister Hotel and was attended by Hupy Law Firm Shareholder Chad Kreblin.

Over the past year, Mr. Toliver donated over 246 hours of his time as an advisor to Milwaukee Teens and a committee member for the annual Black Achievers Teen Summit.  Collectively, the Black Achievers Program donated over 2800 hours of community service this year.

The Black Achievers Program marshals the resources of the home, school, the corporate community and the YMCA to help youth set and attain high education and career goals.  Through the program, African-American professionals from the Milwaukee area serve as role models to area youth.  The program provides a structured environment where young people have the opportunity to make productive choices that will enhance their ability to graduate high school and attend college.  Participants commit to maintaining a minimum GPA and attending program activities.  Their commitment pays off because each year approximately 88 percent of all participants improve their GPA by at least one letter grade.  100 percent of this year's senior class participants graduated from high school and are enrolled in college this fall.
