Celebrating Sojourner’s 50th Anniversary

On Friday, September 12th, Milwaukee came together to celebrate Sojourner’s 50th Anniversary at the “Be The Light” Gala—an evening dedicated to honoring survivors of domestic violence. Each year, Sojourner stands beside more than 10,000 women, children, and men impacted by abuse, offering support, safety, and hope.

The unforgettable evening of solidarity, courage, and resilience was led by CEO Carmen Pitre, who has spent over two decades serving Milwaukee’s most vulnerable communities.

The event was emceed by Donald Driver, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Super Bowl champion, and Pro Football Hall of Famer. Driver shared his own personal connection to the cause, speaking about his mother’s struggles with domestic violence. Through his Donald Driver Foundation, he continues his mission to support underprivileged children and homeless mothers.

The evening featured a cocktail reception, dinner, inspiring stories from survivors, a live auction, and a moving mission moment. Proceeds from Be The Light provide critical funding for crisis response, advocacy, and healing services that empower survivors to build lives free from abuse.

For years, Hupy and Abraham has proudly supported Sojourner. This year, the firm was honored to serve as the Courage Sponsor. The firm has also participated in the Ride for Family Peace, supported the AWEAR Fashion Show, promoted #UntilSheCan and #PurpleThursday campaigns for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and contributed through monetary donations, school supply drives, hygiene collections, and clothing initiatives.

Through crisis shelter and hotline services, advocacy efforts, healing programs, and children’s services, Sojourner helps survivors find safety and creates pathways to peace and lasting change for families.
