Year after year, the summer months bring with them serious challenges for a food bank. Kids are out of school and those breakfasts, lunches and often dinners they could previously count on during the day aren’t available again until September. When 1 in 4 children in Milwaukee are facing hunger, that makes summer a make or break time.

On the other hand, donations drop during the summer months. Wisconsinites have to make the most of those sunny 80 degree days. Whether folks are going on vacations, getting ready for Summerfest and State Fair, watching a Brewer game or just cooking out in their backyard, AND without that income tax deduction deadline staring them in the face, it’s simply human nature for charitable donations to move further down the to-do list.
