Drunk Driver Passes Bus, Hits Moving Train

Posted on Jan 31, 2010

21-year-old Lavell Robinson was driving south on Calumet Avenue when he drove around a bus and toward the railroad tracks.  The bus was stopped and the gates were down.  However, Robinson drove onto the sidewalk and around the bus.  While attempting to beat the train he drove into the engine of the oncoming train.

Police say that if Robinson would have been going any faster his car would have been cut in half.

After hitting the train Robinson left the scene of the accident and ran. Police found him and took him to Saint Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond.  Robinson was treated for his injures and is now being held by Hammond Police for failure to stay at the scene of an injury accident, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Robinson's blood draw revealed a 0.17 percent blood-alcohol level.

The staff and attorneys at Hupy & Abraham are glad to hear that aside from the driver no one was injured in the accident.
