Love Is in the Air: Valentine's Day Safety Tips

Valentine’s Day Tips to Keep You Safe

Candle and Fire Safety

Candle and fire safety is important to consider on Valentine's Day when using candles to create a romantic ambiance or a fireplace to stay warm. When fire is present, make sure to always:

  • Check smoke detectors are working properly.

  • Blow out candles before leaving a room and do not leave them burning unattended.

  • Avoid placing clothing or blankets near the open flames of a candle or fireplace.

  • Inspect your fireplace and chimney before using.

Driving Safety

Be careful when driving, especially if you’re going to a romantic dinner or event. With increased traffic and possibly inclement weather during February, it’s important to pay attention to the road and drive defensively.

Alcohol Safety

If you are hosting a Valentine’s Day party or gathering, make sure to have enough food and nonalcoholic drinks available to encourage responsible drinking and help prevent alcohol-related accidents. If you plan on drinking, have a designated driver or use a ride-sharing service. Never drink and drive, as it puts you and others at risk.
