On August 21, 2010, the Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall, California welcomed the 5th Annual Stars and Stripes Foundation Shoot for the Troops 2010. Wounded soldiers out of the Warrior Transition Program at Fort Irwin, California and their family members mingled with guest celebrities, supporters and other members of the armed services, including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, and the U.S. Army Special Forces, to make this the best event of the last five years.
Celebrities this year included Joe Mantegna, Adam Baldwin, Steve Kanaly, Joe Penny, Marty Kove, Patrick Kilpatrick, Frank Stallone, Stacie Randall, Peter Sherayko, Kenn Scott, Michael Gregory, Lilly Sieu, Lou Pizarro, Gary Graham, Vinnie Guasteferro and Cork Graham. Donor support is an integral part of the Stars and Stripes Foundation event, and for 2010, some new donors were added to the long list of corporate and business supporters. Mike Hupy, of Hupy & Abraham could not join the event this year; however, as in previous years, he gave another generous donation to the Foundation. This year, Mike sent a personal check for a whopping $5,000 to help their mission.
The Stars and Stripes Foundation will use the money that was raised this year to assist wounded veterans from all services. Plans are in the works to bring approximately 100 wounded service members and their families to Las Vegas to participate in the City of Las Vegas Veterans Week, which includes the American Heroes Challenge, sponsored by American Shooters Gun Range and to march in the Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade on November 11, 2010.
