Michael Hupy: “Well I think in large measure as a lot of other people I became a lawyer because my father was a lawyer and he was a judge. I thought it was an interesting and exciting profession and I'm very happy after all these years that I went into law. I think my responsibility as a lawyer is to first realize that the only reason the legal profession exists is for the benefit of our clients and the public and that our social responsibility as personal injury lawyers is to reduce the number of accidents and the severity of injuries. If we fail at our primary social responsibility our secondary responsibility is to collect as much money as we can for the injured party who hires us. The firm has been here of a lot longer than I have in 1989 I joined an existing law firm that traces its roots back to Lloyd Barbie who started the Milwaukee public school integration lawsuit. The firm goes back to nineteen sixty-four 1969 and when I joined in 1989 I felt part of my mission was to keep the tradition of Lloyd Barbie alive, give back to the community and as our mission statement says do well by doing good. The firm has grown to the point where we have the largest volume personal injury practice in the state of Wisconsin. We've grown from about 25 employees in one office in Milwaukee, to about a hundred and thirty-five employees in 11 offices in three states and I believe that our growth at least, in my opinion, is attributable mostly to the fact that we give excellent service to our clients and the amounts of money we collect for them the insurance companies know that we're going to go to court if we don't get a good settlement.
