A Wisconsin man allegedly lost control of his vehicle and hit two pedestrians, killing one, while under the influence of heroin. 26-year-old Aaron Stoen, a Twin Lakes native, was driving in a residential area in Waukegan, Illinois on Oct. 26 when he reportedly hit two young men who were doing door-to-door sales.

The accident took place around 12:30 p.m. on Sunset Ave. and Oneida Place when the men were hit after Stoen lost control of his vehicle and jumped the curb, according to police. Stoen was then taken into custody by police, who said he admitted to using heroin before the accident, and placed in Lake County jail on $500,000 bond.

After the accident, investigators reportedly found a small amount of what appeared to be heroin and drug paraphernalia in his car. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of aggravated DUI, one count of reckless homicide and faces additional drug-related charges.

Stoen was also caught with 12 bags of heroin in 2011 by Lake County Police in Volo, Illinois when he had a passenger in his car who was overdosing on heroin. He was allegedly attempting to inject her with a narcotic to counter the effects of overdosing.

Accidents like this are easily preventable. In addition to staying sober while driving, it’s especially important to maintain control of your vehicle and always yield to pedestrians.
