On June 30, 2014, Hupy and Abraham, S.C.’s client was walking through downtown Columbus, Wisconsin when disaster struck. As she attempted to cross the street, she was hit by a careless driver who failed to yield the right-of-way.
It was about 4:30 pm on a rainy day when our client attempted to cross West James Street. After receiving a walk signal from the traffic lights, she stepped into the crosswalk, but the driver of a blue Chevy Impala didn’t see her while turning left from Ludington Street.
Our client suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, sustaining a fractured tibia and elbow. The driver received a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way in the aftermath of the accident.
Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has continuously promoted pedestrian awareness to reduce these types of incidents. In the last year alone, the firm has distributed over 20,000 “Yield To Pedestrians” bumper stickers at no charge to the public and aired a PSA more than 5,000 times in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa.
