Saturday, June 9 marked the date of the 15th Annual “Cruise for Cancer” Ride.
Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has been a supporter of this ride since its inception and is proud to participate each year in this great cause. Jerry Parins is a former Green Bay police officer who was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. He had retired from the Green Bay police department in 1992 and became the Director of Corporate Security for the Green Bay Packers. As a survivor, he wanted to do something to help other families who were dealing with this dreaded disease. Combining two of his passions, riding motorcycles and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, he started the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer Ride.
His charitable corporation has raised over $1.4 million for various local cancer-related organizations that help families and patients dealing with cancer.
Vandervest Harley-Davidson, located at 1966 Velp Ave, Green Bay, hosts the event and coordinates a group ride each year. In the past, the ride traveled to Vandervest’s other dealership location in Peshtigo. More recently, the ride ended with a large party Lombardi Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. The last few years, the ride returns to Vandervest in Green Bay for a post-ride party and auction. The mid-point of this year’s ride was a visit to Copperfest in Oconto, a fun stop with bands, food and pig-racing.
The ultimate goal of this event is to raise money to help enrich the lives of families dealing with cancer by providing compassionate care.
