The riding season isn't quite here yet in the frozen north, but some interesting events are just around the corner. If you like custom cars, trucks and motorcycles, the 52nd Annual World of Wheels Show is where you'll want to be. February 21-23, 2014 is when it happens at the Wisconsin Exposition Center-State Fair Park. Some of the mid-west's best custom cars, trucks and motorcycles will compete for trophies and cash prizes. If you want to know what's new in the world of customs, there will be plenty of vendors with the latest products and tools to help you with your next custom project. Also back again, the Pinstripe Legends will be displaying their unique talents of striping and custom paint applications with special product sales to benefit charity.

Also coming up on February 26th is ABATE of Iowa's Lobby Day. This is an annual event and motorcyclists from around Iowa converge on the state capitol in Des Moines to speak to legislators about issues concerning motorcycle laws and safety. ABATE sponsors a breakfast at the capitol and invites legislators to come down and enjoy some food, coffee and conversation. This has been a successful way to forge those important relationships with the people who write the laws that affect our lifestyle. In March, ABATE of Wisconsin will hold its annual Lobby Day on the 13th. This event usually has 500 motorcyclists arriving in Madison from all four corners of the state. In order to expedite travel plans, ABATE arranges for buses to travel specified routes, picking up people at various stops along the way. Southeast Wisconsin has a large population of riders and the law firm of Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has sponsored buses for this area of the state for several years. Every type of rider is welcome and encouraged to attend Lobby Day with ABATE. Individual constituent meetings are scheduled with legislators as well as group meetings in conference rooms with several legislators and staff meeting with as many as 40-50 riders at one time. In the case of conference room meetings, some team captains representing ABATE lead the discussion with the legislators. This has proven to be a very effective means of letting legislators know of our concerns while promoting personal relationships that have aided ABATE in its successful representation of the motorcyclists of Wisconsin.
Finally, on March 28-30, 2014, Wisconsin hosts STEAM (Seminar to Educate and Motivate) in Wisconsin Rapids. This event is a regional conference, presented by the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), and brings together grass roots activists from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Illinois and Nebraska. ABATE of Wisconsin is this year's host (this conference travels to the various member states) and the conference brings leaders in the motorcycle rights community together to offer workshops on various topics related to legislation, safety and administering the daily workings of a state motorcycle rights organization. The STEAM Conference for 2014 will take place at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids.
