Harley-Davidson has issued a voluntary worldwide recall for 57,138 units of its 2017 touring motorcycle line after discovering a possible engine oil leak. Harley said the leak “could lead to oil on the rear tire, which may result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of crash.” According to a Harley spokesperson, 45,599 affected models were sold in the United States.
The affected 2017 motorcycles are:
- Road King
- Road Glide
- Street Glide
- Road King Special
- Road Glide Special
- Street Glide Special
- Electra Glide Ultra Classic
- Road King Classic
The motorcycles were built from July 2 through May 9.
According to the company a clamp on an engine cooler line may not have been installed correctly and could come off. Nine reports of such failures have been reported so far, and have caused two crashes and one minor injury.
H-D is urging owners of the affected models to see their dealers immediately to have the clamps inspected. Any motorcycle repairs will be made at no cost to the customer. “This is a voluntary recall in the interest of customer safety,” Harley said in a statement regarding the matter.
