Wisconsin has some great motorcycle roads and destinations.

Wisconsin has some great motorcycle roads and destinations.

The Great River Road tour along Highway 35 is well-known and well worth the time. Whether you start in the north near Eau Claire, or the south near Prairie du Chien, spectacular views and quaint towns dot the landscape along the mighty Mississippi.

Door County is another attraction that many bikers take advantage of each year.  Riding north from Green Bay along Highway 57, you’ll embrace the many picturesque towns that welcome two-wheeled traffic to their communities of artisans and food establishments; towns with names like Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Sister Bay, Ellison Bay and Gill’s Rock. aerial view of coastal town

If you like your scenery with an added challenge of adventure, you might consider visiting the rolling hills around Viola, La Farge, and Rockton. Starting in Madison, travel along Highway 14 west to Boss Town. There, ride north on County Road G to Viola, home of the S&S motorcycle facility. You might want to take a slight diversion to visit the S&S complex where premium engines and parts are made that enhance the performance of Harley-Davidson platform motorcycles or for custom builders.

Continuing north from Viola on Highway 131, through La Farge and Rockton, you’ll be treated to curvy roads bracketed by rolling hills. When you reach Rockton, you may want to stop at Wild Things for some shopping. They have everything fur and leather a biker could want, and they make custom garments too.  Leaving Wild Things on 131, you’ll reach County Road F, which will take you to Highway 33. Highway 33 will take you through some of the best and most demanding curves you will encounter in Wisconsin. This is Wildcat Mountain, and attention to the curves is paramount to safety. Highway 33 will lead you to Cashton and Highway 27, which will take you south and rejoin Highway 14 for your return to Madison. This is a fun road trip and one you will enjoy over and over. Each time you’ll find additional places of interest, or you may explore some of the hilly back roads around Viola and Rockton.  Any way you choose to do it, this area offers some of the best riding in Wisconsin.
