March 8, 2011 - Racine County, Wis. - A fiery single-vehicle accident in Racine County claimed the life of a former police lieutenant who had worked for 2 suburban Milwaukee police departments, according to a Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel report.

The former officer, 46-year-old John J. Andrews, resided in the Town of Waterford. Based on a news report from the Sheriff's Office in Racine County, Andrews was southbound on Highway 83 in Waterford late in the evening on February 19. He apparently lost control of his vehicle when he tried to navigate a curve south of Highway L.

Andrews was a 25-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department. He had retired from Kenosha County Twin Lakes Police Department in 2008, where he was a lieutenant

Andrews went off the road on the east side of the highway and ran into a tree. The impact caused his vehicle to erupt in flames.

Several 911 calls were placed but emergency workers arrived to find Andrews' body in his vehicle. He is survived by 2 daughters, an 8-year-old and a 14-year-old, based on information from the Twin Lakes Police Department.

Andrews was also working as an investigator in Waukesha County for the Big Bend Police Department, where he was still employed at the time of the accident.
