April 18, 2011 - Port Washington, WI - An April 9th crash in Port Washington sent 1 person to the hospital and left 1 dead at the scene.

Reports from WISN Milwaukee state that the crash happened early Saturday morning when a car flipped over the median on Interstate 43 near County Highway H. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident which occurred around 2:07 a.m. and resulted in the vehicle coming to rest in the northbound lanes of I-43.

The vehicle carrying the 2 victims crossed over the median as it traveled southbound. It flipped over and rolled several times before landing in the northbound lanes. Luckily no other cars were struck during the ordeal, which resulted in the 2 men being ejected from the vehicle.

One passenger, Jason Yurk, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The other man, Scott Combs, 40, was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. He was transported by the Flight For Life helicopter for treatment. Both men are listed as having addresses in the city of Sheboygan.

Investigators are looking into what caused this single vehicle accident and suspect speed was a factor according to witness accounts. Both men were found to have not been wearing seat belts.

According to crash statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 561 fatalities in 2009 because of traffic accidents in Wisconsin.
