At 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, a motorcycle slammed into a car in northwest suburban East Dundee, resulting in serious injury to the motorcyclist and the death of the car’s driver.

The East Dundee vehicle wreck occurred on Route 25 at Balmoral Drive when 67-year-old Donna Fritz turned her 2000 Mitsubishi left onto Route 25. A 2002 Honda VTX 1800 motorcycle going northbound and ridden by 60-year-old Patrick McDougall ran into the driver’s-side door. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

According to witnesses, McDougall had been traveling at the posted speed limit but could not react in time when Fritz made the turn in front of him. The witnesses stated that the crash was caused by the Mitsubishi driver’s failure to yield from a stop at an intersection.

East Dundee Fire Protection District paramedics took Fritz, who lived in the 800 block of Bannock Road in East Dundee, to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. She was pronounced dead at 9:51 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Carpentersville Fire Department paramedics reportedly took McDougall, who lives in the 200 block of Caddy Avenue in Carpentersville, to Sherman Hospital in Elgin in critical but stable condition.

Police shut down Route 25 between routes 72 and 68 for about half an hour while emergency personnel tended to the accident.

The East Dundee police department is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Donna Fritz, and we wish Patrick McDougall a speedy recovery from his injuries.
