Annual SHARP LIteracy Event

Randall Cobb, known for being a Green Bay Packers wide receiver, gave a rousing speech at the 14th Annual “A Novel Event” Dinner in support of SHARP Literacy. Hundreds of local community leaders and members gathered at the Pfister in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 16, 2017. During his speech, Cobb spoke of his misconceptions and treatment of education as a means to an end, rather than a tool, when he was younger. Cobb then praised programs like SHARP Literacy for the work it does with children and families in the Milwaukee area.

As a sponsor of the event, Attorneys Todd Korb, Thomas Perlberg and Timothy Schelwat were among the Hupy and Abraham, S.C. employees who attended the dinner.

In addition to Cobb’s speech, Lynda Kohler, president and CEO of SHARP Literacy, gave an overview of the most recent successes the organization has achieved over the last year. Two young students from a local school shared stories of their experiences while in SHARP, and unveiled the book Aloha Adventure, which focuses on diversity and acceptance of differences.

Using a unique format especially created for the program, SHARP Literacy has been proving to help get students excited about reading and improving literacy for over 22 years. The organization has a proven track record of success, with a 25-30 percent gain from before to after starting the program in the 2016-17 academic year. SHARP is one hundred percent privately funded, with a majority of every dollar raised going directly to the program.

Over 9,000 students and educators will be impacted by the SHARP Literacy in the 2017-18 academic year, drawing from 28 schools in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties. Students are able to go on educational trips and partake in after-school and intergenerational programming as SHARP Literacy participants.

A huge proponent of educational programming, Hupy and Abraham, S.C. is proud to be affiliated with an organization like SHARP Literacy, with all of the benefits and opportunities it provides for local children. The firm has supported several other educational and community-focused organizations, and has given over $500,000 in the last three years.
