Breast Cancer Awareness Month

About one in eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetimes and it is estimated that 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. in 2017 alone. As well, about 2,470 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2017. That’s an unprecedented number of Americans suffering from just one form of cancer. So, each October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

At Hupy and Abraham, we are committed to raising awareness and research money for breast cancer, so that fewer of our friends and loved ones will suffer from this condition in the future – and this means more than just wearing pink. Throughout the month of October, we’d like to encourage others to donate to causes that support a search for the cure while also dedicating time to those who are already suffering from the disease.

Lowering Your Risk

According to breastcancer.org, there are a number of factors that contribute to breast cancer, including genetics, diet, and lifestyle. As we are still searching for a cure, it is clear there is no one way to prevent breast cancer, but there are things we can do to reduce our risk, such as:

  • Get regular checkups and breast exams
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Do not smoke cigarettes
  • Limit alcohol intake

Giving Back

For the past decade, Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has been an active supporter of the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showcase (WBCS). In 2004, the Hupy family donated the home used as the Breast Cancer Show-house that year. Since then, the firm continues to be a major donor and advisor to WBCS, and participates each year in the annual “Pinktacular Salute to Survivors Fashion Show and Luncheon.” Beyond that, the riders in our firm like to show their support by taking part in the annual “Ride for a Cure.”

We remain committed to doing everything that we can to fund cancer research. In the past three years, Hupy and Abraham has donated more than $500,000 to more than 250 worthwhile causes.
