NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Dinner Attendees

On September 20, 2013, the NAACP Milwaukee Branch held its "Annual Freedom Fund Dinner" at the Pfister Hotel. The Milwaukee-based personal injury law firm and long-time NAACP supporter Hupy and Abraham sponsored the event, which featured a silent auction, dinner and a “Freedom Party” that followed afterwards.

WISN News Anchor/Reporter Jason Newton emceed the event and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett spoke briefly, commending the NAACP for holding the city of Milwaukee accountable when it comes to civil rights.

Hilary Shelton, the Director of the NAACP’s Washington Bureau, served as the keynote speaker and praised the unity of the organization at all levels. He also thanked all of the sponsors for supporting the NAACP Milwaukee Branch’s main fundraising event.

For decades, Hupy and Abraham has been a loyal supporter of the NAACP. To date, the firm has donated over $100,000 to the NAACP’s Scholarship Fund, helping numerous African-American students pursue their dreams through education.

Hupy and Abraham’s long-standing commitment to supporting the NAACP is in accordance with the foundation that was laid by the firm’s founder, Lloyd Barbee.

In addition to being an attorney, Lloyd Barbee was a well-respected community legislator, civil rights activist and NAACP member. Lloyd would certainly be proud to see the firm he founded continue to support a cause that was so near and dear to his heart.
