On May 21, 2014, at 3:49 p.m., our 18-year-old client was walking eastbound on Pflaum Road in Madison, Wisconsin. A 33-year-old man was traveling southbound on Spaanem Avenue in a utility truck when he failed to yield the right of way to our client at the intersection. He crashed into our client and then drove away. Our client needed medical transport from the scene. The weather was clear and dry that day, so it did not affect the factors that led to the accident.

yield to pedestrians in Wisconsin
Be mindful of pedestrians while driving.

Attorney Michael Hupy has been extremely involved in fighting for pedestrian awareness. Last summer, he appeared in two television interviews to increase awareness toward pedestrian safety. He also has contacted all 19 Milwaukee area metro police chiefs and the mayors of each municipality to tell them more citations need to be issued so drivers take pedestrians more seriously.

Now that that school has started, pedestrian safety is especially important. More children and other pedestrians will be crossing roads, and drivers need to be aware of them and yield to them.

Hupy and Abraham has created PSAs for pedestrian safety by declaring that “every corner is a crosswalk” and drivers need to be attentive to pedestrians waiting to cross. Additionally, the personal injury law firm has distributed over 20,000 “Yield to Pedestrians” stickers to help spread this important message more.
