A motorcycle rider is in critical condition at Froedtert Hospital after being struck by two cars.

According to a report by TodaysTMJ4.com the crash happened last Thursday on North Avenue near Reservoir Park and Weil Street. An SUV traveling westbound swerved into the eastbound lanes, hitting a motorcycle, which was crushed into the car coming behind it.

The motorcycle rider, aged 34, suffered severe head injuries and is now in critical condition according to the Milwaukee police. Witnesses saw the motorcycle lying on the street in between the two vehicles amidst debris, a pair of shoes and the victim's helmet. Police do not know if the rider was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

The 31-year-old woman driving the SUV was apparently under the influence of alcohol and is now in custody for "causing great bodily injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle," according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department.

The accident remains under investigation. The horror of this incident is difficult to accept, showing once again the extent of the damage inflicted on others by the recklessness of driving under the influence, and the immense price paid by motorcyclists who have absolutely no protection when they happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
