Motorcycle Club Files Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit

Posted on Jun 01, 2010

The Outlaws MC, Knoxville, Tennessee, has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the city of Knoxville, Sheriff JJ Jones, and others. The lawsuit stems from a December 31, 2009 raid of the clubhouse belonging to the Outlaws MC in Knoxville. The peaceful celebration of ringing in the New Year was violently disrupted by concussion grenades and entry by a SWAT team. Once entry was gained, members of the Sheriff's Department and others broke furniture, smashed unlocked doors and confiscated items, including jewelry, TV's and even a grave marker.  They also ate some of the food that was prepared for the party while club members and guests were shuffled outdoors, handcuffed and detained outside in inclement weather.

A search warrant was signed by Judge Bill Swann, authorizing the Sheriff to conduct the search warrant based on charges that an undercover agent for the Sheriff's Department was assaulted and forced to give back his club issued insignia and clothing. The club disputes these claims and the lawsuit alleges unreasonable search and seizure practices, destruction of property and excessive bonds set for those accused of assaulting the undercover agent.
