The corner of South 14th Street and West Greenfield Avenue on Milwaukee's South Side was the scene of a dreadful accident last Sunday.
Milwaukee Police had attempted to pull over a speeding pickup truck on Greenfield Avenue, without success. A few minutes later, the officers saw the same dark vehicle passing a white minivan, approaching a crosswalk at great speed. Frances Pizarro and her son were crossing the street and had moved to the opposite part of the crosswalk where they were hit with extreme violence by the pickup. The scene was captured on the police cruiser's video showing the truck slamming into the two pedestrians who were looking at traffic coming from the opposite side.
Pizarro, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 20-year-old son sustained critical injuries.
Police chased the pickup on Greenfield for some 20 blocks and finally got it to stop in a dead-end street. The driver got out of the truck and jumped into the harbor. He was later pulled out and arrested. Aged 41, the man had been convicted three times for DUI and was driving on a revoked license.
The attorneys of Hupy & Abraham convey their most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Frances Pizarro, and wish her son a speedy and complete recovery.
