Car Insurance in Wisconsin- Minimum Coverage and Ticket Amounts

Before the law went into effect on June 1^st laws did not require Wisconsin drivers carry auto insurance.  However, the two-month-old law is in effect and police are ticketing for non-compliance.  In this article we will go over how much car insurance you must carry in Wisconsin and the fines that will be assessed if you are caught without proper insurance. 

• How much insurance you need- In Wisconsin you need at least liability coverage. Your coverage must include $15,000 for property damage, $50,000 for the injury or death of one person and $100,000 for the injury or death of more than one person.
• Fines for non-compliance- If you are pulled over or are involved in an accident and you do not have the proper insurance you can be fined up to $500. If are not carrying proof of insurance you may be fined up to $10. If you offer fraudulent auto insurance information you can be charged and fined up to $5,000.

                                                                                       

As you can see it pays to have the right auto insurance.  A fine of $500 could have gone a long way towards insuring your vehicle.  Underinsured drivers pose a risk to others each time they get behind the wheel.  Please ensure that you follow state law and carry at least the minimum amount of auto insurance.
