Operation Teen Safe Driver (OTSD) of Illinois

Operation Teen Safe Driver is a program that originated in Tazewell County, Il. Police took notice after car accidents took the lives of 15 teens in as many consecutive months. They knew that they had to work harder to prevent accidents that involved teenaged drivers.

In response, the county formed Operation Teen Driver. Since its inception two years ago there have been no teen accident fatalities in Tazewell County. Now, the Ford Motor Company Fund and The Governors Highway Safety Association have teamed up with the Illinois Department of Transportation to take the program statewide. Please read on to learn more about how OTSD can keep you and your teen driver safe. Click on any of the links below to visit the website directly.

  • Resources and Toolkits- OTSD offers many free resources for public and private use. Topics available here include: Ford Driving Skills for Life, Victim Impact Speakers, ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation and Youth Services America.
  • 2010 Selected Schools- Schools from across Illinois are chosen for recognition and to qualify to win prizes. Many schools across the state were selected in 2010, but only five from each region won top honors.
