The Illinois Department of Transportation offers current road and traffic information that is useful to anyone traveling through the state. Information available on the site includes road conditions, current highway construction, bridge information and Amtrak schedules and prices. Please use this page as a basic guide to the Illinois DOT website.

  • Motorcycling- The Illinois DOT offers a free motorcycle skills course. Illinois residents who are at least 16 years old and hold a current, valid driver's license are eligible to participate. To view course schedules and registration forms click here.
  • Start Seeing Motorcycles- This program, along with the "Don't Drink and Ride" campaign, attempt to reduce the number of bikers injured and killed in motorcycle accidents. May is the IDOT's designated Motorcycle Awareness Month.
  • Winter Road Conditions- Being aware of winter road conditions is often necessary. Before you hit the road, check to make sure that the highways you use are open and free of ice and snow.
  • The IDOT Construction Zone- Also called the Illinois Construction Dashboard, this section is designed to provide status information on construction projects throughout the state. Search for projects using keywords or an interactive map.
  • Economic Stimulus Projects- Learn more about how the Illinois DOT is using their portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Project charts, reports and searches are available here.
  • Bridge Information- Use this page to locate bridges across the state. Information on overhead clearance, maintenance and detailed bridge reports are available here.

  • Current Illinois Fatal Crash Data- Crash data from the current year is available here. The data is compared to the prior year. In addition the number of alcohol-related crashes, restraint use and driver licensing are included.
  • Highway and Traffic Safety Information- Highway safety plans, work zone safety and current safety initiatives are posted here. Programs such as Buckle Up Illinois and Drive Sober Illinois are highlighted as well.
