Donald Driver Keynote Speaker

On September 23, 2013, at the Grand Ballroom in the Pfister Hotel, Sharp Literacy held its “A Novel Event Luncheon” to raise funds that will enable them to educate urban school children. Personal injury law firm Hupy and Abraham sponsored the event and Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver was the keynote speaker.

TMJ4 Newscaster Susan Kim, who interviewed Attorney Michael Hupy about pedestrian awareness, emceed the event and the President/CEO of Sharp Literacy, Lynda Kohler, addressed the large crowd to describe how their organization has a profound impact on the lives of countless young people through education.

Before he delivered his passionate keynote address, Super Bowl and "Dancing with the Stars" champion Donald Driver auctioned off an autographed jersey. The bidding turned into a three-way race before Donald offered to provide two additional signed jerseys so that each bidder could have one in exchange for their $7,000 donations.

Despite being an accomplished athlete, Donald expressed how important education was to him throughout his high school and collegiate career. He also explained how one’s determination makes anything possible, as evidenced by his illustrious football career that seemed improbable during his rough childhood.
Donald also stressed the importance of everyone doing whatever they can to support childhood education and added that it’s not good enough to settle for “average” education.

Prior to the event we received the following note:

Dear Hupy and Abraham,

Thank you for your generous donation for a Personal Table at SHARP Literacy's "2013 Novel Event," which will be held at the Pfister Hotel on September 23, 2013. We're very excited to have Donald Driver as our guest speaker who shares our passion in promoting early childhood education. We look forward to seeing you and your guests there.

Proceeds from the "Novel Event" provide materials and resources to support thousands of Milwaukee elementary school students enrolled in the SHARP program in our most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Our annual test results continue to document significant improvement in our student's reading, writing and research abilities.

On behalf of our students, the SHARP Board and staff, we thank you and all of our gracious donors and supporters who make our program so successful.

Sincerely,

Lynda Kohler
Executive Director
SHARP Literacy

By sponsoring “A Novel Event Luncheon” to support Sharp Literacy, Hupy and Abraham continues to do its part in supporting education.
