On February 19, 2016, personal injury law firm Hupy and Abraham sponsored and attended the “31st Annual Black Excellence Awards.” The event took place at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee and firm president Michael Hupy attended.

Community newspaper the Milwaukee Times presents the event each year and nearly 900 individuals have been honored for their contributions to the community over the past 31 years. The theme of this year’s program was “Excellence: Continuing the Legacy.”

Sheldon Dutes and Melinda Davenport of WISN 12 emceed the event while Troy Vincent, of the National Football League, delivered the keynote address.

During the program, more than 40 citizens were honored for their work in the community and nine local high school seniors were presented with $1,000 college scholarships and laptops in honor of Louvenia Johnson, co-founder of the Milwaukee Times.
