On January 1, 2010, the minimum car and motorcycle liability limits in Wisconsin will increase to $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident.  Simply stated, your liability insurance limits are the most your insurance company will pay under any circumstances if you cause an accident and injure another motorist.

In the past, if a motorist had liability insurance, it could be written in amounts as low as $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.  In addition to raising the minimum liability limit to $50,000/$100,000 on January 1, 2010, the new insurance bill provides that after December, 2016, the minimum liability limits can be increased further to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index.
