The new Wisconsin Insurance Laws mandate that all motor vehicle policies issued or renewed in Wisconsin after November 1, 2009 include automatic Uninsured (UM) and Underinsured (UIM) coverage.  In the past, uninsured coverage was mandated, but underinsured coverage was not.

In addition to making these coverages mandatory, the minimum limits for these coverages have been increased to $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident.  With respect to umbrella policies, insureds will have the right to reject underinsured and uninsured coverage, but we highly recommend that you do not eliminate these coverages, since they provide low cost, high limit protection for you and your family.  Your umbrella policy may be the only source for recovering full compensation in serious accidents.  Do not leave your fate in the hands of strangers who opt for the minimum coverage levels required by law!
