How prevalent is cell phone use among drivers?

A:

Unfortunately, cell phone use and text messaging while driving cannot be blamed on just one set of drivers; one age group or sex.  Using a cell phone and texting while driving is all too common among nearly every group of drivers.  A recent study by the Pew Research Center found that 47% of texting adults have sent or read a text message while driving.  In addition, 75% of adults who use cell phones reported talking while driving.

Many texters wonder what the big deal is.  They believe that they have enough control to both text and drive at the same time.  The truth is that any distraction that takes your eyes from the road or your mind away from driving is extremely dangerous.  Accidents caused by distracted drivers are on the rise in Wisconsin and across the nation.

The attorneys at Hupy & Abraham would like every driver to concentrate on the road each time they drive.  We have seen too many bikers and motorists injured and killed in an accident caused by a driver who is more concerned about their phone, even their fingernails, than the lives of those around them.
