Will you do your part in accident prevention in Wisconsin this holiday season?

Drunk driving affects thousands each year.  From DUI tickets to injuries and deaths, drunk driving is both dangerous and expensive.  So how can we work together to reduce the number of drunk driving accidents this holiday season?  The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) has compiled a list of resources and law enforcement campaigns for each state.  Below are the holiday programs that affect us in Illinois and Wisconsin.

  • Illinois- Illinois will continue to focus on lowering the staggering proportion of alcohol-involved and unrestrained fatalities that occur late at night. To combat this trend more than 200 state and local law enforcement agencies will be enacting roadside safety checks and safety belt enforcement zones. Statewide, media agencies will be using the Click It or Ticket and You Drink & Drive. You Lose. messages over the holiday season. This media campaign will include radio, cable TV, online, out-of-home and internet advertisements that will push the anti-drunk driving message.
  • Wisconsin- Booze and Belts is a safety initiative that will run from Dec. 10-18. The initiative will include police agencies and all forms of media. The state expects that over 140 agencies will participate in the program.

Why push the message of reducing drunk driving in December?  Last year 753 Americans were killed in crashes involving a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

You have heard it again and again, but the attorneys at Hupy & Abraham must do our part in spreading the message that drunk driving kills.  As personal injury attorneys we have filed too many accident and wrongful death lawsuits.  This holiday season, and year-round, please make a plan, designate a driver and arrive alive.
