As you trek through a store or public area, it is not uncommon to encounter a puddle of fluid or other hazard that may pose a danger for slipping or tripping. It is much more common than most people would think, as those responsible for providing a safe environment may cut corners or ignore dangers. Unfortunately, business owners often overlook simple fixes that wind up costing a victim his health and financial wellbeing.
There are many injuries that may result from a slip and fall accident. One of the common injuries that a victim may suffer from is a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). An ACL injury can be severely painful and difficult to recover from.
There are several different treatment options a victim may utilize to recover from an ACL injury. Depending on the severity of the injury, a slip and fall victim may use one of the following treatment methods:
- R.I.C.E. For minor ACL injuries, the R.I.C.E. method may be used. This method of treatment utilizes a combination or rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
- Therapy. Most ACL injuries will require some sort of therapy. Therapy methods may include the use of crutches, a knee brace, range-of-motion exercises, muscle strengthening exercises, and stability exercises.
- Surgery. Surgery to repair a torn ACL is common. The surgery utilizes a tendon from another part of the knee or leg to repair the tear. This is known as a tendon graft.
