Keep your family and friends safe from a Wisconsin swimming pool accident by taking these safety precautions.Slip and fall accidents can happen anywhere. While many people associate Wisconsin slip and fall accidents with icy winter walkways, slips and falls are a risk any time of year.

In the summer, slips and falls often occur at pools and water parks. The combination of hard surfaces and water makes the area around pools a prime location for slip and fall accidents. If the water is allowed to sit, algae can build up causing an already slick surface to become extra slippery.

Falls can also occur when there are trip hazards near a pool. Even pool safety equipment that is not properly stored can cause trips and falls. Extension cords are not only a trip hazard, but can also cause electrocution.

Poolside slips, trips and falls can be prevented. Safety precautions include:

  • Surrounding the pool with a safety barrier
  • Covering areas near pools with a non-slip surface covering for better traction
  • Placing handrails in especially slippery areas
  • Making sure walkways are free of obstacles and debris
  • Not allowing people to run near the pool
  • Placing signs to warn of potential hazards

Under Wisconsin premises liability law, those who are injured because of a property owner’s negligence may be eligible to claim damages for hospital bills, medication and medical supplies, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

I think one of the most important thing is ensuring there is no running at the side of the pool. It is easy to get excited, whilst enjoying a swim with friends but whilst running people are more likely to slip.

Yes slippery swimming pools can really cause dangerous accidents. Precautions must be taken by the property owner.
