It can be tempting to shoot off a quick text message while driving. Those who frequently text believe that the time it takes them to write and send the text are so brief that the distraction will not affect their driving. However, as we have seen in Wisconsin and across the U.S., cell phone usage and accidents are too often linked.
A study by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has shown that adults are more likely than teens to text and drive. Does this surprise you? Perhaps it shouldn't. We have spent so much time focusing on teens and their use of cell phones while driving that we haven't looked at ourselves.
As adults, we believe that we have most situations under control. We have been driving- and texting- long enough to be able to do both things well. This perception is just plain wrong. In accident after accident cell phone usage has been blamed as the distraction that caused the crash.
The attorneys at Hupy & Abraham want to encourage you to put down the phone and drive. Ask yourself, "Is this message worth a life?" We don't believe it is.
