A slip and fall accident- Will it happen to you?

Anyone can find themselves suddenly without their balance and falling to the ground--the victim of a slip and fall accident.  However, there are some groups of people at higher risk for injuries related to this type of fall.  If you are among the following groups of people, there are steps you can take to help prevent the potentially life-threatening injuries seen in slip and fall accident victims
  • The elderly- Those over 60 may not have the agility that younger people do. In addition, as we age bones become more brittle and the skin bruises and tears more easily. This can cause serious fractures of the back, wrist or arm.
  • Certain groups of employees- Janitors, nurses and doctors are at higher risk of a slip and fall. In these jobs there is a high likelihood that the employee will come in contact with a spill, creating a very slippery surface.
  • Those living in cold climates- The snow and ice in Wisconsin and other cold weather states creates the perfect slippery situation. Though some slipping is unavoidable, wearing the proper footgear can help reduce the risk of falling on snow and ice.
Though most of this advice is common sense, it doesn't hurt to be reminded of the importance of avoiding a slip and fall.  If you have fallen and believe that a store owner, manager or property owner didn't do their best to prevent the fall, you may have a personal injury case.  With offices in Milwaukee, Appleton and Madison, we are here for you where you need us when you need us.  Please contact an attorney today.
